Christina Mckelvie, MSP, SNP - Stonehouse Park, South  Lanarkshire

“The reinvigoration of the Stonehouse Bandstand has reopened an invaluable space for the local community and is a perfect example of community empowerment and ownership in action.

“The 110 year old bandstand, built for the “Great Exhibition of Glasgow” in 1911, was brought back to its former glory by the Friends of Stonehouse Park who working with other organisations were able to raise the funding to complete the project.

“Thanks to the efforts of activists like committee member Karen Kelly and local historian John Young the road has been opened to a return to activities and musical events it has seen in the past and a wider restoration of the park.

“I look forwarded to attending many events at the bandstand over the coming years as part of enjoying the community greenspace!”
