Scott Williamson, Silverburn Park, Leven, Fife

Being a part of the regeneration of the park is really satisfying for me. Even though I’m so busy, it’s a peaceful place. You feel really calm here. I feel really proud of the place as well, really proud of what’s happened in the last few years and what we’ve built here.

“I’m the campsite manager here at Silverburn Park. As a public park, it’s very important to the people in Levenmouth. It’s about tranquillity, a place to get away, and a great place for the community.

There’s always some sort of event going on here, we’ve got Art in the Park and Family Fun Days, and often have Winter festivals where we get local people coming down and selling their wares and their crafts and all that.

Now, we’re hoping to expand the campsite, add more glamping eco pods and camper van pitches which are so popular. At the centre of the park is the showpiece – the Flaxmill Building, which is getting a massive regeneration.

I’ve got a long history with the park. I remember coming down here and playing when I was a young kid, and visiting the petting zoo that was here. It was always a good place to just jump on your bike and get away when you were a kid. And then, in my teenage years, the place fell into disrepair a little bit. So, it wasn’t as appealing as it was when I was a child. Being a part of the regeneration of the park is really satisfying for me. Even though I’m so busy, it’s a peaceful place. You feel really calm here. I feel really proud of the place as well, really proud of what’s happened in the last few years and what we’ve built here.

On a day to day here I’ll see family, friends, loads of people I know walking by. If you’re part of the community, you’ll know people here. We’ve got a lot of volunteering work happening as well. ‘Grow your mind’ is a group of veterans that come and work in the garden, and the Friends of Silverburn group that are mostly retired folk come down and volunteer their time, energy and their money into the place. It’s brilliant for the community.”
