A series of pilot Green Health Partnerships are demonstrating how physical activity can be increased and mental health improved through engagement with the natural environment.

The ‘Our Natural Health Service’ Initiative and Green Exercise Partnership have published a range of case studies on Greening the NHS Estate.

The NHS Lothian Green Health programme has produced a series of case studies demonstrating the impact of the greenspace and health programme.

Several of the projects in greenspace scotland’s Social Return on Investment Programme – Greenspace is good…and we’ve proved it! - focused on Green Health activities.

  • Bums Off Seats found that every £1 invested in a single health walk would generate around £5 of benefits
  • Gorbals Healthy Living Network found that every £1 invested in community growing activities would generate around £16 of benefits
  • The Woods for Health Steering Group found that every £1 invested in structured outdoor activities on Kinnoull Hill for individuals with mental health problems would generate around £9 of benefits.
