The reason the group behind the nomination think Falkirk should win is because they believe it is the most improved neighbourhood for walking in Britain. Below are some of the reasons why:

  • We now have two world class tourist destinations, The Wheel and The Kelpies.
  • For a population of 158,460 we have a very well maintained path network of over 600KM, exceptional for our population size.
  • We have two canal towpaths, the Antonine Wall, the John Muir Way, and numerous riverside footpaths.
  • Our intimate pattern of historic towns are set in fine countryside, and these are very well linked by footpaths.
  • There are footpath routes to work, routes to school and routes to public transport.
  • Our new electric railways bring us within 20 minutes of Glasgow and Edinburgh, and numerous other towns
