The volunteer rescue team received £4,000 Bags of Help funding to replace essential search and rescue clothing to ensure they have the best equipment to protect them in often dangerous activities. They are one of the busiest mountain rescue teams in Scotland.

The volunteer team is available 24/7, 365 days a year in all weathers, assisting walkers, climbers, runners and tourists since its foundation in 1967. They cover an area of over 1000 square miles in one of the most popular mountain areas of Scotland.

The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park sees two million visitors a year; 60,000 walkers annually attempt the West Highland Way and Ben Lomond itself has over 30,000 walkers and climbers.

“The Tesco Bags of Help award has enabled us to purchase insulated gilets for our volunteer mountain rescue team, which have been a great help in keeping us warm and comfortable on the hills, sometimes in treacherous weather. The gilets are an essential part of our search and rescue clothing when carrying out rescues in challenging, remote environments, often in poor or wintry weather or at night. When reaching a casualty/missing person as quickly as possible can mean the difference between life and death in a mountain situation.”

The rescue team are also involved in several community-based projects including safety talks to local groups and making available their post in Drymen for community activities, including first aid courses.
