Invitation for expressions of interest from artists and creative practitioners to work with communities on Remembering Together open from January to March 2022

Responding to the crucial need for reflection and remembrance, partners on Remembering Together, Scotland’s programme of co-created Covid community memorial projects, announce first callouts for expressions of interest from artists and creative practitioners.

As we enter 2022 and take account of the Covid pandemic in Scotland, the need to come together and make space and time to reflect has never felt so necessary. 

Remembering Together partners are beginning to announce the 32 invitations for expressions of interest for artists and creative practitioners with experience of co-creation, socially engaged and/or participatory practice to work with communities to co-create a proposal for a memorial for each local authority area, that will acknowledge the changes, illness, and isolation we have experienced, and offer space to remember those who have died.

Through January and February, the following local authority areas will invite expressions of interest from artists/creative practitioners:

Remembering Together does not mark the end of the pandemic: Covid will be with us for some time to come and we cannot predict how we will be impacted in the future.  Remembering Together instead seeks to provide much-needed acknowledgement and recognition of those we have lost and the challenges we continue to face.

In this spirit, as well as Remembering Together honouring those whose lives have been lost to and during the pandemic, it is also about reconnecting people and reminding each other that the pandemic has been experienced universally as well as individually. Some have experienced bereavement and loss or felt deeper impacts on their lives due to diversity dimensions such as age, care, disability, and ethnicity, as well as the pronounced challenges that place, faith, LGBT+ status and poverty bring.

Information for Artists and Creative Practitioners

Artists and creative practitioners working on Remembering Together will be supported with £15k to co-create the memorial concept and idea with community members over five months, with support from greenspace scotland and the local authority partnership.

Artists and creative practitioners will be working with communities that have experienced real challenges and losses during the pandemic and will have experienced their own challenges and losses so the Remembering Together team and partners are committed to supporting those working with us.

Artists and creative practitioners with lived experience of diversity dimensions that have contributed to the depth of Covid impact on them are encouraged to apply, and all artists and creative practitioners with a co-creative, participatory, or socially engaged practice are encouraged to apply. Those facing additional barriers can be supported by partners or the Remembering Together team to apply.

As projects are locally driven, each area will have slightly different criteria and guidance for Remembering Together and so artists and creative practitioners will need to check the information for the specific area they wish to work in.
