The Improvement Service has published the 2019/20 reports for the Local Government Benchmarking Framework. The Culture & Leisure report which includes parks and greenspace reveals that:

  • Over the last 10 years (from 2010/11 to 2019/20) spend on parks and greenspaces has reduced in real terms by 34.2% - with a year-on-year reduction, including 2.9% in 2019/20

  • In previous years, councils with highest levels of deprivation spent significantly more on parks and greenspaces, but this is no longer the case – costs have reduced by 41% in the most deprived councils compared to 26% in the least deprived councils

Local authority parks and greenspace colleagues will discuss the report’s findings at an Improvement Service event on 6 Sept.
