The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) are on the lookout for Green Plan It mentors to mentor small teams of 12-14 year old students through Green Plan It 2019.

Over ten weeks, you'll help a team of up to six students to plan and create a model garden for their school or community and support them to share their ideas. You'll offer inspiration and practical tips from your own experience, to enable young people to make their own decisions about their ideal greenspace. As a mentor, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Share your knowledge with young people
  • Introduce young people to the power of plants
  • Encourage positive social action
  • Network with other horticultural mentors
  • Develop your coaching skills and professional confidence
  • Feel good about making a difference

You will need to be available to attend a half day mentor workshop in June/July 2019 and be able to take part in the ten week project from September – December (exact dates are available below), dedicating at least one hour to supporting your team per week. You may choose to visit the students each week, invite them to your place of work or go on a garden visit, or talk to them via Skype.

Deadline for applications: Monday 13 May 2019

What last year's mentors said:

"The students' sheer determination to make a difference, and their openness to always accept any observation as a positive and not a negative meant that they were constantly evolving as the process went on - an absolute pleasure to witness!!!"
