In an article published today the Woodland Trust suggests that primary schoolchildren should spend at least one hour a day learning and playing in wild places to help improve their wellbeing and confidence, a leading conservation organisation has said.

This view is supported by research from around the world demonstrates the enormous benefits to children’s health, wellbeing and development of getting outside to play and the right to play is enshrined in United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The Scottish Government has produced Out to Play - practical guidance from Scottish Government, this provides practical guidance and advice for early learning and childcare settings and practitioners on how to access outdoor spaces, including land or forest areas owned by local authorities, private landowners or national bodies to create safe, nurturing and inspiring outdoor learning experiences.
