Silverburn Flax Mill Donate Fundraise Support our Buy a Brick Campaign Silverburn Flax Mill A staggering £10,000,000 has already been raised to transform the jewel in the crown of Silverburn Park – the B-listed former Flax Mill. The re-development of the Flax Mill began in Autumn 2023 and remains on schedule to complete during 2026 – enabled by Our local community, and strategic funding support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Fife Council, Scottish Government, Historic Environment Scotland, Levenmouth Reconnected, and others including The Robertson Trust, The Wolfson Foundation, The Swire Charitable Trust and Fife Environment Trust.–However, due to rising inflation costs and unforeseen challenges of bringing this this complex building back to life, we are still fundraising to protect the investment and ensure that the re-development is of the highest standard.Any amount you can donate helps us to ensure the success of the Flax Mill project and the full delivery of the project’s vision! Outline of the Redevelopment Plan: Over the last 10 years, Silverburn Park has become home to a major community-driven initiative for wellbeing, enterprise and employment, benefiting the people of Levenmouth and beyond. Work is led by Fife Employment Access Trust (FEAT), an innovative and award-winning mental health organisation which supports people back into work. Building on FEAT’s transformation of the 27-acre public park, which has included establishing a successful camping & glamping site and a takeaway café (earning the reputation of having the best scones in Fife!), the rejuvenation of the Flax Mill will create a visitor centre and community hub offering jobs, training, space for retail and creativity, as well as offering shelter and sustenance for walkers and cyclists enjoying Silverburn Park and the Fife Coastal Path. Gifted to the people of Leven in the 1970s by the Russell family, who established the Mill and lived at Silverburn, the Flax Mill development honours the Park’s overall ethos (which is protected by a Conservation Agreement with the National Trust for Scotland) as a place of quiet enjoyment, supporting the health and wellbeing of the community, and respecting the habitat and biodiversity of the environment. The Flax Mill Project is critical to delivering the overall vision for Silverburn’s regeneration; Heart, Mind & Soul: Silverburn – to create a unique community space, that works for the community, and that the whole community can be truly proud of. The Multi-Million Pound Renovation Will Offer: A café and restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, overlooking the Forth En-suite accommodation Arts & crafts studios for local makers and enterprises Gift shop Meeting rooms and community event spaces Fully accessible public toilets with Changing Places facilities Offices for our own staff and charity partners Interpretation displays throughout, telling the story of the Mill and the Park Thank-you for your continued enthusiasm, likes, shares, buy-a-brick, cafe purchases, campsite bookings, pop-up shop sales, and crowdfund donations. We have been working collaboratively with the local community to develop over 60 different activities, including drop-in mini-building sessions for young families, as well as STEM workshops for schools and construction skills placements for college students. Hard-hat tours also offer opportunities for the public to experience the ongoing conservation and adaptation of the historic Flax Mill. Of course, the growing and processing of flax is central to the Flax Mill project, with an established volunteer flax group already in place, growing and harvesting flax in the Park. The community of Levenmouth have long had a close relationship with Silverburn, and we are delivering oral and social history activities that capture people’s memories and associations with the Park and Flax Mill - both onsite and as part of local outreach activities. We are committed to finding new ways to support people to explore and engage with the natural heritage of the Park, through new trails and guided walks – celebrating biodiversity and the environment. All activities celebrate the unique heritage of the Mill and its setting within the Park creatively and collaboratively, and are designed for people of all ages, interests and abilities. Events and activities have the local community at their heart, and we actively support and engage with people in the most deprived parts of Levenmouth, and especially young people and those experiencing mental health issues. image credit to Wil Freeborn Silverburn Park is an initiative of FEAT Trading CIC, a Company Limited by Guarantee, Registered in Scotland, Company No. SC434244.A wholly owned subsidiary of Fife Employment Access Trust, No.3 Silverburn Cottages, Largo Road, Leven, Fife, KY8 5PU.
