Bryan, Eleanor and Annie, Mugdock Country Park, East Dunbartonshire

I love this park because we’re close to our home, and it’s easy to get to. It’s a large area with beautiful views, quite often we bring our friends. I’ve been coming here regularly for 50 years – it began during the war time when my father was stationed in Glasgow in 1944

The family has been visiting Mugdock Country Park since 1944 – a tradition that has spanned generations. Now even though the family is spread far apart, they still make a point of bringing the grandkids to the park with their grandparents, to spend time enjoying the space they love together.

Eleanor Bingham

“I’m born and bred here, the park has been a constant throughout my life. My mum and dad had four children, and this is a large area – the noise dissipates quickly even with that many kids. There were always plenty of places to play games like hide and seek and kick the can. Now, we’ve got seven grandchildren in the family, and still for all of us Mugdock is always the first place we come to with family, with visitors, it’s our go-to. Annie loves playing here, going up to the castle and playing hide and seek.”

“I love this park because we’re close to our home, and it’s easy to get to. It’s a large area with beautiful views, quite often we bring our friends. I’ve been coming here regularly for 50 years – it began during the war time when my father was stationed in Glasgow in 1944. There’s been an enormous change since then in terms of accessibility.

There was quite a lot of military presence and equipment here during the war, which is now completely absent. The park is much more accessible now, it used to be even quite difficult by car, my father had a large military vehicle when we were young and that’s how we would come. I’m not in a wheelchair yet, but now you could even push a wheelchair around.”
