News and events News Launch of Tesco Fruit & Veg Grants An exciting new grant programme, Tesco Fruit & Veg grants is now open for applications and invites schools, registered charities and not-for-profit organisations supporting children and young people to apply for up to £1,500 for causes that improve access to healthy, nutritious food. Grants will be awarded to schools and groups that support children and young people. These can include voluntary or community organisations (including registered charities, CICs limited by guarantee, housing associations and local authorities), sports teams for young people, uniformed services (Brownies, Guides, Scouts, Cadets etc), nurseries and playgroups. Here are some previously funded projects that included a healthy food element: St Mirren FC Charitable Foundation £1,500 for their Fit and Fed project, providing positive activities and healthy food for disadvantaged children and young people during school holidays. Stow Primary School £1,500 for their Sustainable Garden project, helping local families learn to grow healthy food and make sustainable food choices, while also tackling climate change. Bridge of Weir Scout Group £500 for their Munching Crunching Fit project. Scouts took part in the challenge of planning, shopping and cooking meals from scratch, and the younger children got an intro to cooking by making vegetables fun, and creating fruit kebabs. St Patrick’s Primary School £1000 for their Nourish project. Families learned how to cook nutritious meals with the help of a community chef, as well as playing games with a sports coach while their meals finished cooking. Other project examples include: Growing projects in allotments/planters for use in school kitchen or for children to take home and learn about food Breakfast/after school clubs that provides food for pupils Sports clubs that provide food as part of the project Holiday clubs that provide healthy meals and snacks Counselling/mental health support projects that provide a healthy snack as part of the provision Projects providing SEND provision with healthy snacks/meals Youth clubs that provide a healthy meal/snack Addressing holiday hunger amongst children outside of school time Healthy eating projects that support families to cook healthy meals on a budget Foodbanks to provide food support to families This is not an exhaustive list and other project ideas also welcomed.
