North Ayrshire Green Health

The North Ayrshire Green Health Partnership (NAGHP) and greenspace scotland are pleased to share this North Ayrshire Green Health Strategic Framework 2024-2030, serving as a legacy for the Partnership and a vision for the future.

The Framework defines the future of green health in North Ayrshire. By unifying local and national learning, it sets out key principles and goals for integrating green health activities into North Ayrshire policy and practice ensuring continued green health action that benefits the people of North Ayrshire. It also identifies the key achievements of the North Ayrshire Green Health Partnership, outlines the current policy context and highlights relevant evidence supporting green health activity.

In June 2024 the Green Health Framework was endorsed by the North Ayrshire Community Planning Partnership and work will continue to influence and embed it into the work they do to deliver on their three themes of Wellbeing, Work and World.

Background

greenspace scotland worked closely with the North Ayrshire Green Health Partnership Steering Group, Community Planning Partners, The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) and other stakeholders. The Framework was informed by research and consultation around the impact of the North Ayrshire Green Health Partnership (NAGHP). The work was commissioned at the point when the pilot NAGHP was coming to an end. It was one of four pilot Green Health Partnerships in Scotland within the Our Natural Health Service (ONHS) programme - a national, cross government initiative led by NatureScot.

There has been a substantial amount of work to date enhancing delivery and promoting green health activity in North Ayrshire from the grassroots and embedding green health within existing systems and services. The Annexes of the Framework cover this in more detail along with a Policy and Evidence Review.

What is greenspace?

Greenspaces are the 'green lungs' of our towns and cities which contribute to improving people's physical and mental health by providing places for informal recreation and 'breathing spaces' to take time out from the stresses of modern life.
Other funding sources
