Garthdee Community Garden Garthdee Field Allotments Association was awarded £12,000 from the Tesco Bags of Help programme to build a customised outdoor classroom and shelter. The Garthdee Community Garden is a dedicated area within the Garthdee Fields Allotment Association (GFFA) site. It is being developed as a community health project by GFFA, Robert Gordon University (RGU), and a range of other organisations, to help improve health and social inclusion. The new outdoor classroom/shelter is a fully enclosed octagonal building, five metres wide between its opposite sides. It is constructed of larch and is suitable for wheelchair access. Volunteers, mostly plot holders or 'plotters' on the allotments, will work with community groups and primary school children. They will show them how to plant, look after and harvest produce as part of increasing their understanding of where our food comes from. The classroom/shelter will also be used by visiting groups from RGU, and by the plotters as a social hub and for training sessions.
