Glasgow parks project benefiting areas of deprivation Keep Scotland Beautiful launch a new initiative in Glasgow which will help community groups in less affluent areas to improve the places that they live in and care for - making sure that everyone in the city can access safe, clean and inspiring greenspaces. Recognising the important role that well-maintained parks and open spaces play in better health outcomes, they will be working to identify community groups that it can support and empower to manage their local parks, green spaces and outdoor places. This project will complement the existing work being carried out by Glasgow City Council and other voluntary projects in the city which support people to engage with their greenspaces. Katie Murray, Communities and Places Manager, Keep Scotland Beautiful commented: “All of the parks, green spaces and outdoor areas across Glasgow provide an invaluable resource to the city - creating a safe space to play, to think, to exercise, to learn. Being able to access quality green space is also vital in helping to tackle some of the health and well-being challenges we face. “This initiative is designed to reach community groups in Glasgow’s less affluent areas and engage people that have never considered managing their own precious spaces. I would encourage anyone that is interested to get in touch and learn more about this exciting project.” Community groups across the city are encouraged to take part. The project, supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery and Glasgow City Council, will see community groups with an interest in the project accessing workshops, forums and hands-on support - building skills to confidently cultivate their own greenspaces and effectively manage their parks to international Green Flag Award winning standard.
