A picturesque route has been made more user-friendly thanks to
funding from Tesco Bags for Help. Dalry Community
Development Hub was awarded £8,000 to revamp the Lynn Glen
– a well loved path created in the 1970s, with stunning views of a waterfall.

Prior to their efforts the maintenance and upkeep of the Lynn Glen walk was minimal. Paths were very muddy and eroding. It was overgrown, blocked at points due to fallen trees and better signposting was needed. To ensure that this asset which is also a site of special scientific interest would not be lost to Dalry the group agreed at their May 2014 Public meeting to attempt to bring the walk back to its former glory.

It’s been a great experience – we’re working to install a viewing platform and seat at the waterfall so that walkers can stop to admire this amazing viewpoint. We want to share Dalry’s hidden gem and people can now access this beautiful part of Ayrshire easily."

They achieved this with the support of North Ayrshire Council, offers of assistance from volunteer groups, funding from various sources and lots of negotiations with landowners. The Bags of Help funding delivered Phase 1 of the scheme, focusing on the costly provision of an access route, delivery of material, site clearance, path repairs, fence repairs and new drains over the first section of the walk. The transformation is amazing and the route now welcomes many more walkers new and old.
