To mark World GIS day we wanted to celebrate the ways in which greenspace scotland have in recent years made use of GIS tools in some of our pioneer projects....

Greenspace map

In 2011, greenspace scotland published the world's first national greenspace map. Working with Ordnance Survey (OS) this has been updated and extended so that it now covers greenspace in Scotland, England and Wales. This includes an open dataset  for communities and businesses to create products and services that will encourage healthier and greener lifestyles.

ParkPower

The ParkPower project funded through Rethinking Parks Prototyping projects supported by Nesta, Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund uses GIS data to identify parks with most potential to generate and store energy. Using GIS helps identify parks that can generate and store energy whilst also using other pieces of GIS to look at heat and energy demand.

This is an exciting pioneer project and we are looking for someone to join our team – we’re recruiting for ParkPower Project Manager
