David Dunn fitness trail launchA Tesco Bags of Help grant of £10,000 enabled this enthusiastic
Community Council to create an outdoor, open access fitness
trail for all ages in the popular George V Park in Bonnyrigg.

The Community Council named the new trail in honour of local man, David Dunn, who was very sadly killed some years ago trying to stop an escaping bank robber in the nearby High Street. Many local community volunteers provided support for the project and the varied and challenging 1km trail adds greatly to the existing Park facilities and will encourage fitness and fun.

The trail was launched in March 2017 with help from Dunn family members; local celebrities and a pipe band. Lots of local people came along to try out the trail and listen to the opening ceremony speeches.

"David Dunn was a local hero and this is an everlasting memory to him and means a lot to the family. This trail sums up what he did that day for the community"
- Gary Locke, friend and former Hearts and Raith Rovers manager

"Dad was born and bred Bonnyrigg and he would be very happy that this trail is now part of the community."
- David Dunn, son of the late David Dunn

"If everyone can avoid a sedentary lifestyle by incorporating physical activity into their daily and weekly routine by using this trail then they may live seven years longer."
-Chris Oliver, Orthopaedic surgeon and Professor of physical activity for health
