With the beginnings of warmer spring weather, much of the secret night wildlife is out and about now, including our bats after their long winter rest.

The Sunset Survey needs no skills or kit and you can do it with your friends or family from your window, balcony, garden or local green space. Each year people happily discover the unexpected, recording not just bats but also all sorts of other surprising nocturnal wildlife visitors, including tawny owls and other birds, foxes, deer, badgers, rabbits, amphibians, fish, insects, molluscs and hedgehogs. Twilight time is rush hour and meal time for many hungry animals, so it’s often the best chance to see them out and about.
