Professor Chris Whitty, England's Chief Medical Officer told BBC Breakfast this morning that it is very important that children and adults take exercise and a good place to do this is in parks.

"Being outside in the park is a very good thing to do and taking exercise is always a good thing to do."

Activity in the open air with people keeping their distance is being recommended but it is important to avoid large social gatherings and being in groups. Crowding together with lots of friends should be avoided. A kick about with a football where friends keep a safe distance was used as an example of an activity that was safe to do.

Our parks and greenspaces are more vital than ever right now and give people a welcome place to escape from the anxiety and stress that many of us are feeling at this time.
