Ahead of COP26, Councillors in Glasgow have today [Thurs 1 Apr] announced bold and ambitious action to respond to the twin challenges of the climate emergency and ensuring a green recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. Building from discussions about road space reallocation, this ambitious new project will see the M8 permanently closed to traffic and transformed into the world’s longest linear park, with community orchards and gardens, outdoor classrooms and nurseries, green gyms and renewable energy generation.

Announcing the plans, Dr Prila Lofo, newly appointed Executive Director for Sustainability & Wellbeing said: “For too long the car has dominated our city, now is the time for bold and radical action to create new green lungs to breathe fresh life into our Dear Green Place.”
