Letham Primary School received £12,000 from Tesco Bags of Help to develop their school grounds for all to enjoy.

The front entrance to the school has been transformed with a large raised bed, shrubs, small trees and plants to attract bees, butterflies and other bugs and beasts. There are nine new wooden benches situated around the playground. The nursery garden now has new raised beds, a sand pit and a digging bed for the children to enjoy making mud pies and looking for mini beasts while developing their language and social skills through play.

Each class throughout the school has a raised bed to look after and they will continue to look after the same bed as they progress through the school. These beds will contain edible crops as well as flowering shrubs. The children will then be involved in harvesting and cooking their crops. The outdoor classroom provides a great new space and place for learning and is a real asset for everyone.

"The children were very involved in planning what they would like in their garden and assisted with the ground works too. They helped plant trees, shrubs, bedding plants, vegetables and perennials. They learnt about different plants and seeds, how to care for our garden as well as working together and helping each other, to build relationships with staff, to persevere and problem solve, and most of all to get mucky and have fun! This project may have planted the seed to inspire a future horticulturist, landscape gardener, fruit grower, geologist, gardener or environmentalist and that is truly amazing."
