News and events News Nature Discovery Map empowers Scottish schools to explore biodiversity NatureScot has introduced the Nature Discovery Map Scotland, a digital toolkit designed to inspire Scottish students to engage with biodiversity and sustainability in their school grounds. Officially soft-launched on 21 Nov 2024, the toolkit aims to promote outdoor learning and environmental stewardship among pupils across the nation. Developed with input from teachers and students, the toolkit integrates interactive mapping tools to help schools look, discover, plan, act, and track their environmental progress. Activities include recording local biodiversity, designing green improvements, and monitoring long-term ecological changes. The initiative aligns with the Scottish Government's Learning for Sustainability Action Plan and builds upon the 2021 COP26 commitment to create educational resources for climate action. By participating, students gain hands-on experience in STEM and digital skills while fostering an understanding of climate adaptation and biodiversity. The project also supports existing initiatives like Eco-Schools and Climate Ready School Grounds, with the ultimate goal of transforming school campuses into sustainable learning spaces by 2030. NatureScot highlights the program's potential to connect young learners with nature, reduce eco-anxiety, and nurture future leaders in environmental innovation. The full rollout is expected in the coming months. Manage Cookie Preferences
