Right now we are facing huge, unprecedented problems: a global pandemic, climate change and an ecological emergency. As countries and cities adapt to living with Covid-19 and design and implement recovery strategies they have been presented with a unique opportunity: an opportunity to build back better and to use innovative tools and solutions to do so.

On 23-25 March 2021 we will be hosting a virtual Nature-based solutions Innovation Summit so get the dates in your diary now.

We need to accelerate the shift to sustainable, greener cities that deliver for their citizens using nature-based solutions as an innovative tool. Our natural urban ecosystems are fragile and fragmented. Building a strong city ecosystem using nature-based solutions that support society, nature and economic growth is key but it will be challenging to build.

Join us as we explore the challenges and opportunities and hear more about innovations emerging to support the design, implementation and stewardship of nature-based solutions in cities.

Summit content is being designed around the following themes:

  • Healing sick cities
  • Reducing the risks
  • From recession to recovery

We’ll hear from a wide range of innovators including community led initiatives, city led innovations, nature-based enterprises, other H2020 funded projects and international experts.

Co-hosted by Glasgow City Council and greenspace scotland, the full Connecting Nature Innovation Summit programme will be released in early 2021.

greenspace scotland are a partner on the Horizon 2020 Connecting Nature project along with Glasgow City Council and a host of European partners. The project is focused on urban nature-based solutions, their delivery in cities and how they can be scaled up.

Nature-based solutions are the sustainable management and use of nature for tackling societies challenges such as climate change, water security, food security, human health, and disaster risk management. In urban areas nature-based solutions include green roofs and walls, parks, active travel routes, natural wastewater treatments, community growing, renewable energy production and sustainable urban drainage.
