Scottish Government are currently consulting on draft Regulations for Open Space Strategies and Play Sufficiency Assessments.

Each Open Space Strategy (OSS) and Play Sufficiency Assessment (PSA) could impact on the health of different populations through multiple pathways. The Regulations and any subsequent Guidance will influence local implementation and consequently the benefits or harms that may results.

To support colleagues preparing their responses to the OSS and PSA consultation Public Health Scotland, members of the Social & System Recovery Environment and Spaces Group and invited participants undertook a Health Inequalities Impact Assessment Scoping exercise to identify potential impacts on populations and the health determinants likely to be affected by the draft Regulations.

The report provides: a summary of the key impacts identified, initial recommendations and details of the discussions during the scoping exercise and subsequent feedback.

“A Scotland where we live in vibrant, healthy and safe places and communities” is the first of Scotland’s Public Health Priorities, demonstrating the importance of place to health and wellbeing.
