More about Remembering Together

The Covid Community Memorial programme, now called Remembering Together, was announced by the First Minister on 23 March 2021 and greenspace scotland was asked to lead delivery of the programme.

Remembering Together is a national programme of remembrance managed by greenspace scotland and funded by Scottish Government, bringing together communities and artists/creative practitioners in collective acts of reflection, remembrance, hope and healing.

greenspace scotland and local partners have commissioned artists and creative practitioners to engage with community groups and those hardest hit by the pandemic to shape ideas that benefit communities, reflect people’s experiences of the pandemic and commemorate those who have lost their lives to coronavirus. Offering a place to connect, to reflect and to create, Remembering Together is about creating together, being part of a process to commemorate those who have lost their lives, those who have experienced loss and change as well as celebrating the ways in which Scottish communities have come together during a difficult time.

The first phase of the programme involved working with local partnerships to commission artists, artistic partnerships, creative practitioners and/or cultural organisations in each of the 32 local authority areas to lead creative community engagement programmes. To ensure this programme is strongly rooted and grounded in each local area and community, and complements current activity and future plans, we have worked with local partners to shape the briefs and manage the commissions. This engagement phase will be followed by funding to realise the projects which emerge from these creative collaborations.
